- Be careful when giving out your personal details. While details like addresses need to be swapped, only do so once you are sure the other member is sincere.
- When communicating with a potential home swapper, ask for undeniable proof of identification, such as a drivers license or passport before committing to any swapping.
- Arrange that a trusted neighbour or relative be there when your guests arive to stay. Only have them hand over the keys to your place once they have seen some proof of identification.
- If possible, arrange that your home is inspected during your guests stay.
- Agreements such as: whether your pets will be looked after; who pays which bills; and use of utilities; need to be agreed upon before house swapping. A written agreement - either email or paper - is a good idea.
